Such a Dandy Lion

A high-heeled turtle, and the big-bad wolf, and a menagerie of other anthropomorphic figures populate Tom Otterness’s show “Animal Spirits,” opening tonight at Marlborough Gallery. In his Brooklyn studio, however, cats rule. Studies for future public sculptures, they’re lions inspired by the sweet-faced creature in Peaceable Kingdom, the scene of interspecies paradise that 19th-century folk master Edward Hicks painted more than 100 times. But these cats look like they’d be right at home in any urban jungle.
