The fabulous founder of the Fun Gallery—shown here in Keith Haring’s 1983 installation at the East Village space —was an instigator, protagonist, and driving force of the ’80s art scene, bringing street artists in from the cold, starring in Charles Ahearn’s Hip Hop classic Wild Style, and helping to unite the creative worlds of uptown and downtown as never before. She takes her rightful place as venerable predecessor of Jeffrey Deitch—the former gallerist to McGee, Fairey, and other street-art stars, who now directs LA MOCA—when the show “Art in the Streets" opens there next month.
