The Crumb and the Restless:
Underground comics pioneer, ARTnews coverguy, accomplished draughtsman, and professional curmudgeon R. Crumb lives in a medieval town in France he will not name, so fans don’t show up at his door. But next week he’s coming to New York. The occasion is his works-on-paper retrospective at the Museum of American Illustration, at the Society of Illustrators on the Upper East Side. Also present will be Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, Shuman the Human, Bo Bo Bolinski, Lenore Goldberg and Her Girl Commandos, Horny Harriet Hotpants, Boingy Baxter, and Angelfood McSpade, among other Crumb concoctions. The next day the artist will appear on another kind of stage—playing with his pals, Eden & John’s East River String Band. The show is is sold out—but you can still listen to some of the tunes here.
